‘Ground Zero’, starring Emraan Hashmi, struggled to gain traction at the box office in its opening weekend. The film received glorifying reviews and yet it didn’t collect what it should have, at least on its first Sunday. After three days, the military drama based in Kashmir stood at Rs 5.20 crore nett, with Sunday earning Rs 2.15 crore nett.
The Tejas Prabha Vijay Deoskar-directorial clashed with ‘Kesari 2’, ‘Jaat’ and ‘Phule’ in theatres, which considerably affected its run. The Akshay Kumar-starrer eventually emerged as the weekend winner this time, earning more than the rest of the theatrical releases – Rs 65.45 crore.

‘Ground Zero’ is the story of BSF officer Narendra Nath Dhar Dubey, who led a mission to nab Jaish-e-Mohammed leader Ghazi Baba, who played a key role in the 2001 Parliament attack and the 2002 Akshardham attack.
India Today gave a three-star rating to ‘Ground Zero’ in its review, calling the film a gripping story, with Hashmi giving one of the best performances of his lifetime. “It neither makes you emotional nor fills you with rage, because that is also not the intention of the makers. ‘Ground Zero’ just presents a story as close to honesty as possible, and attempts to give you a nice big-screen experience,” read a part of the review.
The film’s journey ahead doesn’t look easy. It will be interesting if it manages to continue its run until the second weekend.
